Announcements (Push Notifications)

Announcements are push notifications sent to members’ phones through the Klahaya app. They do not send email — use a Resend broadcast for that — and they cannot be recalled or edited once sent.

  1. Go to Admin > Announcements (under Members)
  2. In Compose, choose the Type:
    • Club announcement — events, reminders, news
    • Urgent alert — closures, weather, safety. Use sparingly; members are told to leave this category switched on
  3. Enter a Title (up to 65 characters) and a Message (up to 240). A locked phone shows roughly the first two lines, so put the point first
  4. Choose what Opens when tapped — Just open the app, a portal page such as News, Calendar, Volunteer, or Dues, or Another portal page… with a path like /home/forms/summer-picnic
  5. Under Audience, add at least one filter. The same account-type, member-type, team, and volunteer-hours filters as the marketing segments are available, plus lesson-session registrations. The preview updates live: “N members match this audience” and “N of them will receive it, on N devices”
  6. Click Send test to me to see it on your own phone first
  7. Click Send, then confirm in Send this notification? — for 100 or more recipients you must type the number to confirm

Members who match the audience but have no app installed, or have switched the category off, are not notified by any other means.

The Sent card lists every announcement (test sends are not shown) with its category, who sent it and when, the audience summary, and how many members matched, were reachable, and were delivered to. A Failed or Never finished badge flags a send that didn’t complete.

In the Klahaya app under Account > Notifications (or on the web at /home/settings/notifications), members can switch each category on or off: Waitlist offers, Lesson registration windows, Club announcements, Urgent alerts, and Facility reservations. Everything defaults to on. The app asks for permission once during onboarding with a Turn on / Not now prompt; if a member declines, notifications can only be re-enabled in the phone’s own settings.
